You would be wondering what mushrooms gotta do with wordpress themes. You will understand that as you read through this passage.
Here I have refereed new wordpress theme distributing sites as mushrooms. They are mushrooming outta no where. It is a good thing to happen if they are here to protect the interest of the designers and users. Sadly that is not the case.
If you are a wordpress user for quiet some time you will know about different types of wordpress themes.
- Free wordpress themes ( free to download with no sponsor links)
- Sponsored wordpress themes ( free to download with sponsor links)
- Paid themes/Premium themes ( Paid for license to use )
- Custom theme ( Specially ordered to be made for personal use)
Theme sites are allowed to distribute themes upon permission from the designer, without making any modifications to the theme. Some themesites request to include a link back to their site and do it after getting the permission from the designer.
But no themesite is allowed to list any free or sponsored theme without the permission of the designer. They have absolutely no right to inject some extra links to the themes without the designers knowledge. There are some controversies about sponsored themes that they are linking to illegal sites or featuring too many un family friendly links on them. Being a theme designer who has done some sponsored themes, I keep this in mind and take care not to accept sponsor ship from any illegal site and do not include more than 3 sponsor links on the footer. Recently I’ve been recieving mails from users who use my theme, complaining that there are too many links on my themes. They said there are links on the sidebars, there are extra links on footer and even links on the pages and posts. Since I did not place them there when they are released, I could only wonder how this happened.
It is then I realized that some of the new mushroom themesites are really poisonous.They have no respect for the designers or the community. They just go out and download all themes irrespective of free themes or sponsored themes, inject links all over the themes and distribute them posing as faithful servants of WP theme community. I am gonna list them out below..

I think this is just the tip of the iceberg. There could be more like this among us. I urge all wordpress users not to download themes from such sites. If you download themes from such sites and get your sites linked to gambling and porno sites, I will not be responsible for that. There are so many reputed theme site which offer themes without altering the original release. You may please download themes from them or from the sites of the theme designer itself.
Do not eat poisonous mushrooms as they will make you sick, instead be clever and make the right choice..
