This is jinsona of web2feel.com. Gamezine is my latest free magazine layout wordpress theme. It is designed and styled in a way to suit gamer blogs. But that being said, the theme is perfect for any other niche too.This is a free wordpress theme with features equivalent to premium themes. I request the user to retain the credit links on the theme footer as an appreciation for my efforts to bring quality free themes available to you.
The Gamezine theme being a magazine theme with custom modules, you will have to customize it to have it perfectly set for your blog. There is a custom theme option page for the Gamezine theme at the admin panel. If you are an experienced wordpress user you will be able to set it up on your own.But I am setting up this guide so that even wordpress newbies can set up Gamezine theme on their site with ease.
STEP:- 1
Once you have downloaded the Gamezine zip theme, extract the zip pack and find the gamezine theme folder . Next you have to upload the theme to your wordpress theme folder via FTP. Once the theme is uploaded, go to the design tab and activate your Gamezine theme.
STEP:- 2
On your design tab find and click on the Gamezine options
Under the Gamezine options you will find several settings options which you need to customize for your blog. We will go by them one by one.
1.Featured Post Gallery Settings
The Featured Post Gallery is a module on the theme which displays an animated gallery of images linked to recent posts from a specified category.
The number of images and the category of the posts associated with this gallery can be set up from the theme option page.
2.Sliding Panel Settings
The sliding panel is a module on the theme which displays an animated sliding panel of thumbnails linked to recent posts from a specified category.
The number of panels and the category of the posts associated with this panel set can be set up from the theme option page.
3.Gamezine top 5 section
This is a module located on the sidebar. This displays a list of recent posts from a specific category. The post details will have a thumbnail associated with it.
You can setup the number of posts and the category from which you want the posts to display via the theme option page.
4.About Me section
This module is located in a tabbed content area right below the image slider.
You can display your avatar and a few words about you or your site in this section.
The settings are located on the theme option page.
5.Gamezine TV
This is a module on the sidebar which will display the video embedded in posts of a specific category.
For this to work effectively you need to make a post and embed the video of your choice on to the post. Make sure you resize the width of the video to 310px.
Once the post is saved add this to a specific category ( for example videos) . Make sure you add only video embedded posts to this category.
When the specied category is selected in the theme option page, it will display the most latest video post in that category.
6. Banner ads
You can setup upto four 125x125 banner ads on the theme which will be displayed site wide on a tabbed content area.
You can setup the banner image and the ad url via the theme options.
7. Adsense setting
There are adsense setup on the single posts and pages. all you need to do is supply your adsense code where it is required to activate them
THUMBNAIL /GALLERY IMAGE KNOW HOW
If you have checked out the demo of Gamezine theme, you would have noticed image thumbnails being used on miniposts, sidebars, sliding panel etc. You can also see super cool images on the featured content gallery. How do we set them? That is obviously not done via the theme option page. Instead they have to be done while you make the post itself. We use the custom field feature of wordpress to get this done. If you are hearing about custom field for the first time, a little bit of Google research will help you understand it better. Here I will be concentrating more about how to use that feature in context of gamezine theme.
Now please remember, the name custom field is used on the English version of wordpress, I do not know what it will named on other language wordpress releases. I had received support request from foreign language wordpress users saying they cannot find custom fields . Please identify the corresponding section on your version of wordpress if it is not English. Though it may be named different It will be present on your wordpress. For your ease I will post an image where the custom fields will be normally located.
Setup thumbnails for posts
Once you have entered the post title and content and categories, scroll down to the custom field area.
In the custom field area, enter the key as screen and thevalue as the url of the image (160px x110px) .
Setup images for featured content gallery
To display images in the content glider, you will have to assign images via a different custom field.
In the custom field area, enter the key as feature and thevalue as the url of the image (620px x220px) .
